Pas de Deux (1968)

Ballet Adagio (1972)

Narcissus (excerpt)(1983)

Ment as films on their own, but through the eyes of an animator like Mclaren, these elaborate dance pieces are wonderful sources of inspiration and reference to what one can suggest later with animated images.

Mil Personas con Talento – artists chain project -

I feel honored to unexpectedly be part of this project initiated by a collective in Barcelona. The idea is that an artist recommends the next person in the chain that expects to reach “Mil Personas con Talento” (One Thousand People with Talent). Miguel Jiron is the one responsible of me being number 40 in the list. Thank you Miguel and by the way he is 39 for very well deserved reasons, check his amazing work here.

This is an amazing project of perfect execution, understanding the possibilities of interactive narratives. Is simple but effective and that makes it very appealing. Access using google chrome and type in a city you are familiar with. I tried the ones I know in Colombia but no luck yet. What it does is that it takes google map pictures and integrates those photos with the story of a boy running and exploring this space. At the end you can draw a postcard that you can send online and later download. Try it out!

These guys at Visualmotive coded in python a script that reads Steve Reich’s “Pulses”, intro piece for the wonderful “Music for 18 Musicians”. The script creates an image that shows a map of what happens in the music.

Minimalist symphony on film!

=Lines Horizontal ||Lines Vertical

Exploring minimalism. My starting point is a simple animation of a line in 11 frames, then I am taking this into after effects and I will construct all the images with this simple cycle. Variations in size, position and rotation, allow me infinite possibilities to draw and consequently animate anything just by using 11 drawings. Steve Reich’s “Music for 18 musicians” has become one of the main references and it helped me remember these wonderful pieces by Norman Mclaren and Evelyn Lambart that relate closely to how my film begins.
